Bali 4.6

Seven point four metres of beam on a hull of thirteen point six. A boat more than half as wide as she is long, and that single ratio explains most of what follows, because the width is what creates floor area a monohull of the same length could never find.

Bali's design then removes the last obstacle to using it. A tilting glass door, hinged like a garage door, lifts the wall between saloon and cockpit out of the way, so the two become one room open to the sea across its full width. Lunch moves outside without anyone carrying anything far, and a conversation started at the galley carries to the helm.

Forward, the solid foredeck is the detail that separates a Bali from most catamarans, which stretch netting across the same space. Here it is a surface you can cross with a drink in your hand and lie on for an entire afternoon. With cockpits fore and aft, the boat offers two outdoor rooms of different character: one that catches the air under way, one that becomes the table at anchor. Between them they let eight people spread out without going below, which matters on a boat whose interior is one room by design: anyone wanting half an hour alone does not have to shut a cabin door to find it.

Four cabins, eight guests, four heads. One bathroom per cabin is the difference between four couples on holiday together and four couples negotiating the morning. She was delivered in 2022.

Her draught is one point three metres, and that is the figure to plan the week around. It lets her anchor in water where deeper yachts have to stay well out and send the tender in on a long run. Her base is Olbia, in the Gallura region of Sardinia, the largest base in this fleet, with the airport twenty minutes from the dock. The Maddalena archipelago lies an hour to the north, and a boat drawing one point three metres will see a good deal of it that a deeper one will not.

There is no permanent crew. A skipper can be arranged on request, which leaves the choice open: sail her yourselves, or hand that part over and treat the whole week as time off.
