Aboard Lagoon SIXTY 5

The Lagoon SIXTY 5 is the largest yacht in the fleet and the one that behaves least like a yacht. Twenty and a half metres long and ten metres across the beam — very nearly half her own length — she does without the narrow corridors and tucked-away corners that a hull of conventional shape imposes. What replaces them is floor: a saloon running the full width of the bridgedeck, an aft deck that seats everyone aboard at one table, and a forward cockpit which most guests find on the second morning and then quietly treat as their own.

Five cabins sleep eleven, and there are five heads. That second number matters more than the first. Nobody waits, nobody shares, and four couples travelling together can keep the fifth cabin for a child, a grandparent, or the friend who joins halfway through the week.

She carries a crew of four: captain, chef, hostess and deckhand. A chef aboard changes the shape of a week more than any piece of equipment. Lunch happens wherever the anchor happens to be, rather than wherever a kitchen can seat eleven at short notice, and dinner ashore becomes a choice instead of a logistical necessity.

Launched in 2025, she is stabilised, and the difference shows at anchor rather than under way: the roll that sends people below on a crowded August afternoon does not arrive. Under power she is quiet enough that conversation on the flybridge is not raised over the engines.

Her draft is 1.6 metres, modest for a boat of this volume, which leaves the shallow bays open to her rather than closing them off.

She works from three bases. Salerno is the easiest embarkation on the Amalfi Coast, with Positano and Capri inside a morning. Capo d'Orlando opens the Aeolian Islands. Olbia sits in Gallura, an airport twenty minutes from the quay and the Maddalena archipelago an hour to the north.

This is a boat for a week with a reason behind it — a birthday with a nought on the end, an anniversary, a family assembled from three countries. It suits a group that wants to be together without being on top of one another.
