Aboard Adri

Sailing yachts of this length usually ask their guests to work around the rig. Adri reverses the arrangement. Forty-five and a half metres, delivered in 2024, she is the newest sailing yacht in the collection, and her deck plan gives everything between the mast and the stern to living space rather than working area.

That is possible because the rig is handled from the cockpit. Sail trim happens in one place, in the hands of the people whose job it is, without a procession across the deck every time the breeze shifts. Guests stay where they settled.

The aft deck states the intention plainly. Set into it, directly beneath the boom, is a spa pool, occupying ground that on most yachts of this type belongs to sheets, winches and crew movement. It is a deliberate trade, and it says a good deal about what a sailing yacht drawn in 2024 is now expected to do.

Twelve guests, six cabins: an even division, two to a room, with no spare berth to allocate and no discussion about who takes the smaller cabin. Six couples fit the layout exactly. So does a family that travels in pairs, or two or three households sharing a week without anyone feeling like the guest of the guests.

Eight crew look after those twelve, close to three guests for every two crew, which is a generous complement on a sailing yacht of forty-five metres. Enough hands to sail her properly, and enough in reserve that the standard of service does not drop at the moment the wind fills in. In practice that ratio decides whether a sailing week reads as an expedition with catering attached or as a serviced holiday that happens to move under sail.

She is available across the Mediterranean, which suits a boat meant to be sailed rather than simply repositioned. A week aboard Adri can be built around wind and passages instead of around marinas, with the aft deck waiting at the end of each leg. Anyone who has chartered a large sailing yacht before will recognise what has changed here. The comfort is no longer the compromise made below decks while the outside stays strictly functional. On Adri the outside is where the comfort lives.
