Yacht Charter Kyparissi
Three hamlets under the cliffs of Parnon, reachable only by sea until the road came in the 1970s.
Kyparissi sits on the east coast of Laconia in a fold of Mount Parnon, with limestone walls rising straight behind it and deep clear water in front. Until the road was cut in the 1970s the only way in or out was by boat, and that is still the way it feels: three small hamlets, a spring that has always run, and almost nothing built that did not need to be.
The three hamlets
Paralia is on the water with the quay and the tavernas; Mitropoli sits behind it round the church; Vrisi is up at the spring that gives the village its water and its name for being green when the rest of the coast is not.
The bay is deep to the shore and the water is unusually clear even for this coast, because there is no river and almost no run-off. There is one small harbour and it is used by the fishing boats.
The cliffs
Since 2013 the limestone above the village has been developed into some of the best sport climbing in Greece — several hundred routes on walls that run straight up from the sea, and climbers now make up a good share of the visitors outside August.
Monemvasia is south down the coast and Leonidio is north, both under the same Parnon wall. Kyparissi is between them and is the quietest of the three by a distance.
