Aquarius

A 2026 delivery, which on a yacht of forty-five metres eighty means everything aboard is in its first season. There is no accumulated wear, no system that has been patched through a decade of summers, and no interior that was fashionable when it was fitted and is now merely old.

Ten guests across five cabins, two to a room. It is a low number for this length, and the consequence is felt everywhere: the saloon does not fill when everyone is in it, the deck never has to be shared out, and each cabin is a room rather than a berth with a door.

Nine crew look after those ten. That is close to one each, and it is the ratio that decides what the week is actually like: whether service is something you ask for and wait for, or something that has already happened by the time you notice you wanted it.

The hull is a displacement one and it is quiet. That is not a small claim on a yacht of this size: the difference between a boat you can hold a conversation on while it is moving and one where you wait for the anchor to go down before anybody talks properly.

Shaded deck space is extensive, which in the eastern Mediterranean is the specification that matters most. From July to September the usable hours are the ones out of the direct sun, and a yacht with shade in three places is a yacht with three places to be.

She works the eastern Mediterranean: the Aegean, the Turkish coast, the Dodecanese. It is the cruising ground with the most anchorages and the fewest marinas, which suits a yacht that carries her own tenders and does not need a berth to make an evening work.

Forty-five metres eighty is a size with real deck hierarchy. There is a level for the group, a level for dinner and a level for whoever wants to be out of the conversation for an hour, and on a fortnight aboard that separation is what keeps everyone comfortable.

She is delivered by Mengi Yay, a Turkish yard building in the water she works. The practical advantage is rarely mentioned: the yard is close, and anything the yacht needs in season is a short passage away.
