Yacht Charter Cala di Volpe
A long shallow inlet on the Costa Smeralda, and the anchorage the coast is actually famous for.
Cala di Volpe cuts nearly a mile inland between low granite shoulders, shallow and almost enclosed, and the water inside it holds a colour that the whole Costa Smeralda was named for. It is twenty minutes south of Porto Cervo and it is the anchorage rather than the marina that people come back for.
The inlet
The bay narrows as it goes in, so the head of it is flat water in almost any wind, and the bottom is sand over posidonia — which is what gives the green. Boats lie here through the middle of the day and the tenders run to the beaches at Liscia Ruja and Capriccioli either side.
The hotel at the head of the bay was designed in 1963 by Jacques Couelle to look like a Sardinian fishing village that had always been there, and from the water it still does.
Either side of the point
Liscia Ruja is the largest beach on the Costa Smeralda, south-facing and shallow a long way out. Capriccioli, on the other side, is granite boulders and two small coves that face different ways, so one of them is always in shelter.
Romazzino is ten minutes north, and Porto Cervo twenty, which makes this the natural place to spend the day and the marina the place to spend the evening.
