Yacht Charter Trogir
A stone town on its own island between the mainland and Čiovo, twenty minutes from the airport.
Trogir is a small walled town on an island of its own, joined to the mainland by one bridge and to Čiovo by another, with a channel on each side. It has been continuously inhabited since the Greeks founded it in the third century BC, and because the island never had room to grow, almost nothing was pulled down to make space — which is why a town you cross in eight minutes has a Romanesque cathedral, a Venetian fortress and a waterfront that takes large yachts alongside.
The town, and the portal
The centre is a grid of limestone lanes barely wide enough for two, opening onto a square with the cathedral of St Lawrence on one side. Its west door was carved by a mason called Radovan in 1240 and is the finest Romanesque portal on this coast: Adam and Eve on the flanking columns, the months of the year around the arch, and a lion under each foot.
At the western tip the Kamerlengo fortress closes the island — a Venetian square keep with a round tower, put up in the fifteenth century to watch the channel. The riva runs the length of the south side between the two, and it is where the yachts lie.
Why crews start here
Split airport is at Kaštela, twenty minutes away, which makes Trogir the easiest changeover on this coast: guests land, drive a quarter of an hour and step aboard. It is a smaller and considerably calmer place to spend the first night than Split itself.
West of the island the water opens into the channel behind Drvenik Veli and Drvenik Mali, and the pale sandbank between them turns the sea a colour that looks wrong in photographs. It is forty minutes from the berth and is the standard first swim of the week.

- Split airport at Kaštela is twenty minutes away, which makes this the easiest changeover port in Dalmatia
