LEL
Fifty metres that open onto the sea
Aboard LEL
Forty-nine metres seven by Rossinavi, delivered in 2020, and the beach club is the reason to start there. It folds down across the full width of the hull to water level, which turns the stern of the yacht into a room at sea level rather than a platform bolted onto one.
The difference is in how it gets used. A platform is somewhere you pass through on the way into the water; a full-width beach club is somewhere people stay: breakfast, the middle of the afternoon, the hour before dinner, with the sea at floor height on three sides.
Twelve guests across six cabins, two to a room. The division is even, nothing folds down and no cabin exists to make the number work. Six couples fit as drawn, and so does a family travelling in pairs or three households sharing a fortnight.
Nine crew for those twelve. At nearly fifty metres it is a full complement rather than a minimum, and it is what allows the tenders, the meals, the interior and the beach club to be running at the same time on a busy August afternoon.
The sun deck carries a spa pool and planted terraces. The planting is the unusual detail: real greenery on a yacht is a maintenance commitment most owners decline, and its presence says something about how this one is kept and how the crew are expected to work.
Rossinavi build in Viareggio, which is the town where a particular kind of Italian yacht is made. The yard's preference is for proportion and restraint rather than spectacle, and on a hull of fifty metres that shows up as a yacht that looks smaller and better than its length.
She works the Balearics and the western Mediterranean. Ibiza and Formentera are the natural summer ground for a yacht arranged this thoroughly around the water, and the mainland coasts and Sardinia are within a night's passage of them.
Take her if the point of the fortnight is the sea rather than the ports. Twelve people, nine crew and a beach club that runs the width of the yacht: the design has already decided where everybody is going to be.
