Yacht Charter Villasimius
A marine reserve of granite islets and white sand at the south-eastern corner of the island.
Villasimius sits on the corner where Sardinia's eastern coast turns west, inside the Capo Carbonara marine protected area. It has granite islets offshore, sand the colour of flour and water that reads Caribbean under flat light, and it is the anchorage southern Sardinia is built around.
Inside the reserve
Capo Carbonara is a protected area covering the headland and the two islands off it, Serpentara and Cavoli. The water is shallow, clear and full of posidonia, which is what keeps it that colour and why anchoring is zoned.
Punta Molentis, Cala Giunco and the Spiaggia del Riso are the anchorages people come back for — Cala Giunco has a salt lagoon behind it with flamingos on it most of the year.
The coast either side
North, the coast runs towards Costa Rei and the long empty beaches of the eastern shore. South and west, it turns towards Cagliari an hour and a half away, past Cala Regina and Mari Pintau.
The marina at Villasimius is modern, well equipped and sheltered, which makes it the natural base for the whole south-eastern corner.
Practical notes
- A full day's sail from Olbia down the eastern coast; Cagliari airport is an hour by road
- Capo Carbonara is a marine protected area: anchoring is zoned and the crew hold the current chart
- Serpentara and Cavoli lie offshore and are the best snorkelling on this coast
- May and October work here — the south of the island runs warmer and the season is wider
