Spain on this fleet means the Balearics, and the Balearics are sold as one destination and are really four. Mallorca has a mountain range dropping into the sea and a serious restaurant culture. Menorca is low, quiet and lined with coves nobody built on. Ibiza carries a reputation its own northern half does not deserve. Formentera has the clearest water in the western Mediterranean and no airport at all.
What makes a week here work is the distance between them: two to three hours, which means the character of the holiday can change in an afternoon. Nowhere else in this fleet's range offers that.
Palma is the practical centre — the airport, the provisioning and the berths are all there — and three of this fleet's yachts are based in these islands rather than positioned to them.
Practical notes
- Three yachts are based in the Balearics; the rest are positioned from the western Mediterranean for your dates
- Palma to Ibiza is a comfortable day; Palma to Menorca about three hours
- Posidonia seagrass is protected across the archipelago — anchoring is regulated and buoyed in places, and the crew hold the current chart
- Palma, Ibiza and Mahón airports all serve the islands; Formentera has none and is reached by sea
- May, June and September give the same water as August with a fraction of the boats

Questions we are asked
- Which Balearic island should we start from?
- Palma, almost always. It has the airport, the provisioning and the berths, and both Ibiza and Menorca are within a comfortable day's sail. Starting anywhere else narrows the week before it begins.
- Is Ibiza all nightlife?
- Its southern half has the reputation and earns it. The north — Portinatx, Benirràs, the coast towards Sant Joan — is quiet, pine-backed and almost empty, and from a boat you can have one without the other.
- Can we reach Formentera without an airport?
- That is precisely the point of it. Everyone on Formentera arrived by sea, and arriving on your own boat means you are there at seven in the morning when Ses Illetes is empty rather than at eleven when it is not.
- What does a yacht charter in the Balearics cost?
- It depends on the yacht, the season and the crew, so we quote on enquiry rather than publish a number that would be wrong for most weeks. Send us your dates and how many are coming.
